Prop Story: Go Away, Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberly
Posterboard Easel: A green monster with detachable scraggly hair, wild eyes, sharp teeth and a too-long nose.
Sing: The Monster Boogie by Laurie Berkner
Story: Abiyoyo by Pete Seeger
“Speaking of monsters… have you ever heard of the monster Abiyoyo?”
Many thanks to my talented teammate for playing the ukulele during this story!
Sing: Slippery Fish
“Monsters don’t scare me! I’m not afraid of anything… except for the ocean. There’s always something out to eat you! You can be a little slippery fish, just minding your own business, swimming through the water…”
Sing: The Goldfish by Laurie Berkner
Story: The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark by Ken Geist
“Speaking of fish… Have you ever heard the story of the Three Little Fish and the scary Big Bad Shark?”
Posterboards: Three fish hide behind various houses (made of seaweed, sand and a wooden ship). A puppet shark looms menacingly above them.
Sing: Baby Shark by Pinkfong
“Not all sharks are scary! Some sharks are super cute… like Baby Shark!”
Many thanks to my boss for making a costume guest appearance as Baby Shark! The crowd was really excited. Many of the kiddos took pictures with Baby Shark after storytime.
Play: Seashell, Seashell
Not only does the ocean contain cute baby sharks… sometimes there is sunken treasure! Baby Shark was our Vanna White and helped us look for the pearl hiding inside one of the seashells:
Photo: Three posterboard seashells attached to boxes lay on a table. A woman in a shark costume stands behind the table and holds up a round white foam ball (representing a pearl).
Sing: Our Storytime is Over, Wave Goodbye*
