Flannel Friday: Go Away, Big Green Monster!

Sharing another fun giant posterboard I made for Outside Storytimes! I’ve found that many of my favorite flannelboard stories transition well to this medium – such as Go Away, Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberley!

If you’re unfamiliar with the book, you first build up the monster and later take him apart piece by piece. Kids love yelling “Go away!” and making the monster disappear!

I started with a green paint base for the monster’s face, then used hook and loop velcro dots to attach the monster’s different parts (eyes, ears, hair, and so on). I used laminated stiff posterboard for the detachable pieces.

Stay tuned for an upcoming post featuring this green guy in Outside Storytime action!

Flannel Friday is sharing Extreme Makeovers all fall long! Give an old flannel a fresh look and share via the Flannel Friday Tumblr. Submissions will be rounded up and shared in December. New to Flannel Friday? Learn more here!
