Lapsit Baby Storytime Spotlight: Itsy Bitsy Bugs

Following on the heels of our opposites theme the week prior, we continued building vocabulary with even MORE opposite songs and stories about bugs!

Sing: Say Hello to Your Toes*

Sing: Hello, Friends*

Welcome & Gratitude**

Sing: Do You Know the Book Babies?*

Introductions/Sharing: Names & Something New

So many new milestones each week! Rolling over, standing up, walking, crawling, teething, even growling. My, how big our babies are growing!

Rhyme: This is Big, Big, Big*

Bounce: Toast in the Toaster*

Cuddle: You Be the Lemon*

Sing: If You’re Ready for a Story…*

Read: Big Bug, Little Bug by Paul Stickland

The caregivers were great about demonstrating the different concepts while I read (e.g. big and little). The babies LOVED the pop-out at the end. My heart melted watching their smiles and little eyes go wide with surprise!

Sing: Roly Poly

Tune: Frere Jacques

Roly poly, roly poly,
Up, up, up! Up, up, up!
Roly roly poly, roly roly poly,
Down, down, down. Down, down, down.

Repeat: fast/slow, out/in (hug)

Bounce: There Was a Little Grasshopper x2

There was a little grasshopper
Always on the jump
Because he never looked ahead
He always went… BUMP!

(gently drop baby between legs)

We always leave a little kiss on top of our baby’s head after they go bump!

Tickle: Itsy Bitsy Spider

The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out!
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.

Tickle: Here is the Beehive

Here is the beehive
But where are the bees?
Hidden away where nobody sees.
Soon they’ll come creeping out of the hive…
One! Two! Three! Four! Five!
BUZZ!!!! (tickle)

Sing: If You’re Ready for a Story…

Lapsit Reading: Board Books with Fun Features (e.g. flaps, touch and feel, mirrors)

Sing: Talk, Sing, Read, Write, Play*

Lit Tip: Building Vocabulary through Stories & Songs about Opposites

Grown-ups, reading books and singing songs about opposites helps your baby learn new words. When you pair meaningful actions with words like we did today singing Roly Poly, you help baby understand what those words mean.

Play: Bubbles
