Last week was a super fun theme… bedtime! I could not believe how many great books there were to choose from. Here’s what I wanted to read with my family crowds this time around:
Welcome/Opening Songs:
This time around I wore fuzzy slippers and brought my teddy bear to story time. As always, the kiddos loved my silly getup- they guessed right away we were doing a bedtime storytime that day!
- “If You’re Happy and You Know It”
- “Shake My Sillies Out”
- ECRR Focus: Play
Letter of the Day: D
Transition: Dance Your Fingers
Dance your fingers up, dance your fingers down.
Dance your fingers to the side, dance them all around.
Dance them on your shoulders, dance them on your head.
Dance them on your knees, now put them into bed!
Book #1: Peekaboo Bedtime by Rachel Isadora
This was a fun little repetitive book- the kiddos enjoyed closing their eyes and then naming *cough*shouting*cough* what was on each page. Also it was another opportunity to talk about how easy it is to incorporate play into a family’s everyday routine!
Action Song: This is the Way We Get Ready for Bed (scarf song)
This is the way we wash our face, wash our face, wash our face.
(rub scrunched scarf on face)
This is the way we wash our face,
When we get ready for bed.…wash our toes
…wash our knees
…wash our tummy…crawl under the covers

I of course fell asleep after crawling under the covers and the kiddos had to wake me up. Silly me. 🙂
Alternate Action Songs: Waking Up in the Morning and Sally Go Round the Sun (stretchy band songs)
The second family storytime I used the stretchy band (my new favorite thing). It’s great for bringing in the parents and getting them engaged as well! We sat down and stretched while we sang…
Waking up in the morning
Sun’s up in the sky.
Waking up in the morning
Time to rise and shine.
CHORUS:
Everybody stretch back.
Everybody stretch way back.
Everybody stretch back.
It is fun to greet the sun!
Waking up in the morning
There’s a full day ahead.
Waking up in the morning
Time to get out of bed.
CHORUS

Then we stood up and skipped around a bit. 🙂
Book #2: Rock-a-Bye Romp by Linda Ashman
This is such a fun and silly book to sing along with! I think this one was the kid’s favorite.
Book #3: I’m Not Cute by Jonathan Allen
The first family time I had a slightly older crowd, so I read another longer silly story. We had lots of fun crossing our arms and pouting when saying “I’m not sleepy!” This one got a lot of chuckles from the adults in the room!
Flannel: Little Moon, Little Moon (guessing game)
To tie into our ECRR Play focus, I whipped up a little color recognition guessing game for the flannel board.
Little moon, little moon, hiding in the sky.
Is that you behind the blue cloud I spy?
(repeat with other colors)

I absolutely adored this story time theme. There’s so many great books and so many different directions you can go with it- teddy bears, bath time, etc… Looking forward to doing this one again someday!
