Last week we did Itsy Bitsy as a tickle. This week I had the caregivers lay the babies on their backs to encourage baby to follow the scarf motions while we sang. Repeating songs with different props is one way I like to balance repetition with variety in storytime!
Sing: The Itsy Bitsy Spider (scarves)
The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out!
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.CREDIT: Traditional
After the rain comes the rainbow!
Sing: Colors Over You (scarves)
Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
Red and green and yellow and blue.
These are the colors over you.
Red as an apple and green as a tree.
Yellow as the sun and blue as the sea.
Red and green and yellow and blue.
These are the colors over you!CREDIT: Kendra & Read Sing Play
Can’t get the scarves out without playing peekaboo!
Play: Peekaboo (scarves)
Tune: Frere Jacques
Peek-a-boo, peek-a-boo.
I see you, I see you!
I see your button nose, I see your tiny toes.
Peek-a-boo! I see you!

Lit Tip: Getting Ready to READ/WRITE through PLAY
Grown-ups, playing with scarves and bubbles is a great way to help baby develop visual tracking skills! Visual tracking is important to both reading and writing. When you play with scarves and bubbles NOW, you’re helping baby get ready to read and write LATER!
