Spring STEAM Family Fun

Lately I’ve been taking a trip down memory lane on the blog! Here’s another fun STEAM program from days and libraries past.

STEAM Stations:

  • Balancing Butterflies (Art/Math)
  • Green Screen Butterflies (Art/Tech)
  • Rain Clouds in a Jar (Science)

Supplies:

  • Balancing Butterflies: cardstock; butterfly template; crayons/markers; pennies; scissors; double-sided tape
  • Green Screen Butterflies: DoInk app; iPads with Apple pencils; green screen; butterfly headbands
  • Rain Clouds in a Jar: clear plastic cups; shaving cream; blue food coloring; pippettes; water

How It Went:

Making rain cloud jars was definitely the crowd favorite! Even the green screen can’t compete with the classic allure of messy shaving cream.

Due to our limited time frame, I had the kids draw their wings directly in the DoInk app (rather than using a separate app to draw the wings and importing the image, as in this tutorial I otherwise followed from the FugleFun blog).

What are some of your favorite spring STEAM activities for kids and tweens? I’d love to know in the comments below!
