Proud of myself for my latest and LEAST messy (but just as much fun as ever) slime program!
I recently started an after-school drop-in program for kids and tweens on early release days. Kids can drop in after school for a free snack and a fun STEAM activity every week. So far making slime has been their favorite!
Basic Slime Recipe
- 1/4 cup glue
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1-2 tsp saline solution
Materials
- Baking Soda
- Bowls
- Glue
- Glitter
- Measuring Cups/Spoons
- Saline Solution
- Shaving Cream
Setup
I laid tarps on the floor and covered the tables with plastic tablecloths. I set a table in the middle as the central glue station; once kids measured and poured the glue into their bowls, they took their bowls to one of the work stations to finish. Each work station was equipped with measuring spoons, saline solution, baking soda, optional glitter and shaving cream. I provided a basic slime recipe, but encouraged kids to adjust as needed and try adding optional ingredients.
How It Went
This was the most seamless slime program I’ve ever done. I can’t wait to use this setup again to make more slime!
What’s your favorite slime recipe? How have you learned to manage the messy fun? I’d love to know in the comments below!
I’ll admit, I’ve always been a bit intimidated by slime because of the potential for mess – maybe I’ll just take the plunge and find some extra tarps!

Do it! Tarps and plastic tablecloths make all the difference. It is a lot of work, but it’s totally worth it!
