Baby Storytime Spotlight: Flying High

It’s a two-fer Tuesday! Sharing another transportation theme baby storytime plan.

Welcome/Introductions/Share: Tips for Travelling Near or Far with Baby

I love connecting my caregivers to each other as resources. Here’s some of the things they suggested: get blackout car seat shades; buy your toddler their own airplane seat; and most importantly, always have a snack on hand!

Sing: Let’s All Clap…*

Rhyme: This is Big, Big, Big*

Tickle: Round and Round the Batter Bowl*

Bounce: Mix a Pancake*

Sing: Everybody Clap Your Hands by Nancy Kopman

planes go

Read: Planes Go by Steve Light

This fun noisy board book ends with a rocket ship, so naturally we had to sing…

Sing: Zoom, Zoom, Zoom (with Extra Verses)

Zoom, zoom, zoom.
We’re going to the moon!
Zoom, zoom, zoom.
We’re going to the moon.
If you want to take a trip,
Climb aboard my roket ship!
Zoom, zoom, zoom.
We’re going to the moon!
In 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…

Repeat: fun to the sun, far to the stars

Sing: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star (x2)

First we sang the traditional tune, then I passed out bells and we jammed along to the Caspar Babypants version.

Read: Books with Beeps

I gave each caregiver a noisy transportation book for one-on-one, lapsit reading.

Lit Tip: Building Phonological Awareness with Noisy Books

Grown-ups, be sure to look out for board books like this when you’re browsing the shelves. Books with exaggerated animal or transportation noises help your baby learn to listen closely to the sounds of language!

Play: Bubbles

Rhyme: Tick Tock Cuckoo Clock*

Sing: Goodbye, Goodbye*

Stay and Play
