Back with another Throwback Thursday, pre-pandemic baby storytime plan! This one features man’s – I mean, BABY’S best friend!

Sing: Good Morning to You*
Welcome/Introductions
This morning, I asked caregivers to share how much sleep they got last night. There was much sympathy given and advice shared!
Rhyme: This is Big, Big, Big*
“Gosh those babies are growing up and getting SO BIG!”
Bounce: Toast in the Toaster (x2)*
Sing: I Wake Up My Hands…*
Read: Giant Pop Out Pets
When I read this book with babies, I don’t read the text. I just say “Guess who… PEEKABOO! It’s a kitty cat!” and then make some animal noises. The babies are usually pretty captivated by the pop-ups… which set the stage perfectly for my lit tip:
Lit Tip: READ Books with Fun Features & Build Print Motivation
Grown-ups, learning to read is REALLY HARD WORK! I know it sounds far away, but you can help your baby get ready NOW by building a love of books. Reading books with fun features like pop-outs or flaps is a great way to get your baby interested in and engaged with books.
Sing: This Little Doggy Said… (Puppets)
Tune: The Wheels on the Bus
This little doggy said, “Woof, woof, woof!”
“Woof, woof, woof.”
“Woof, woof, woof.”
This little doggy said, “Woof, woof, woof!”
All day long!
Repeat: other dog noises (e.g. yip, arf)

Play: Doggy, Doggy, Where’s Your Bone? (Flannel)
Bounce: Did You Ever See a Lassie?
Did you ever see a lassie,
A lassie, a lassie?
Did you ever see a lassie,
Go this way and that?
Go this way and that way,
Go this way and that way.
Did you ever see a lassie,
Go this way and that?
“I bet that lassie was bouncing around so much because she was trying to scratch her fleas!”
Tickle: Creeping, Creeping, Little Flea (x2)
Creeping, creeping, little flea.
Up my leg and past my knee.
To my tummy, on he goes.
Past my chin and to my nose.
Now he’s creeping down my chin,
To my tummy once again.
Down my leg and past my knee.
To my toe that little flea.

Sing: Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
“Let’s take a bath and wash those fleas out!”
Sing: The Shimmie Shake by The Wiggles (Shakers)
“Let’s shake and dry off from our bath!”
Read: Heads & Tails by Carli Davidson
Speaking of print motivation… I made sure to mention how reading board books with photos is another great way to get babies interested in reading!
Rhyme: Tick Tock Cuckoo Clock*
“Look at that clock! Where does our time together go?”
Sing: Goodbye, Goodbye*
Stay and Play
