Flannel Friday: Going on a Dragon Hunt

Get ready to don your armor and grab your sword – this year’s summer reading theme is “Choose Your Library Adventure!”

When I think of adventure, I think of quests. This flannel twist on the classic “Going on a Bear Hunt” has been a huge hit during my recent summer reading school visit storytimes!

We’re Going on a Dragon Hunt

We’re going on a Dragon Hunt.

We’re gonna catch a big one!

Lower down the drawbridge – SQUEAK!

Trot down the road.

CLIP CLOP, CLIP CLOP.

Coming to some tall grass.

Can’t go under it,

Can’t go over it,

Have to ride through it!

SWISH SWISH, SWISH SWISH.

Got through the tall grass.

Coming to a river.

Can’t go under it,

Can’t fly over it,

Have to find a bridge!

CLIP CLOP, CLIP CLOP.

Got over the river.

Coming to a mountain.

Can’t go under it,

Can’t fly over it,

Guess we’ll have to climb it!

Climb to the top.

HUFF PUFF, HUFF PUFF.

Do you see a dragon?

No! That’s a bird!

Climb down.

Got over the mountain.

Coming to a cave.

Tiptoe inside…

It’s dark in here!

Is anyone around?

GASP!

I see two eyes!

And a green, scaly body!

RUN! IT’S A DRAGON!

Climb back up the mountain!

Climb down!

Find the bridge! Trot across it!

Ride through the tall grass!

Into the castle! Raise the drawbridge!

Phew!

We made it.

Were you scared?
