After an embarrassingly long hiatus, here’s the storytime plan I used with my last Flannel Friday ocean post… in July… yikes! This was such a fun day and one of my first times using the parachute with babies. They loved it!

*Sing: Good Morning to You
Welcome & Set Expectations
*Rhyme: This is Big, Big. Big x2
Lit Tip: Building Baby’s Brain with Gestures
Grown-ups, when you talk to your baby with your body, you help them learn new words! Using meaningful gestures helps babies understand the meaning of new words and concepts. When you use gestures and respond to your baby’s gestures, you help them get ready to read!
*Sing: This is The Way We Clap Our Hands
Read: Peekaboo! In the Ocean
The fan favorite this morning! My babies love this whole series.
Rhyme: Blue is the Ocean x2
For this rhyme I adapted some of the words and movements from “Blue is the Lake.”
Bounce: Row, Row, Row Your Boat by Old Town School of Folk Music
Read: Boats Go by Steve Light
So many fun noises! Some of the babies started imitating the sounds, love when that happens!
Sing: The Waves in the Sea (parachute)
The waves in the sea go up and down,
Up and down, up and down.
The waves in the sea go up and down
All day long!
(repeat with fish in the sea swim all around and gently shake chute)
