I recently had the unexpected pleasure of covering a Fun for Ones storytime. It was fun to adapt my lapsit fall storytime plan for a slightly older group (12-24 months) and compare the differences. I got to see so many familiar faces who had aged out of Book Babies!
Sing: Hello Everybody and How Are You?
As for me, I’m feeling happy to see everyone! I’m so happy I just have to clap my hands…
Sing: If You’re Happy and You Know It…*
Welcome & Gratitude**
Sing: Hello, Friends*
We sang “Hello Friends” in groups of three as the caregivers introduced themselves and their little ones around the room.
Sing: It’s So Good to See You
Tune: I’m a Little Teapot
It’s so good to see you,
I almost couldn’t wait!
Would you clap your hands and
Help me count to eight?Repeat with other movements (e.g. stomp feet)

This was a new song for me! The families were quick to correct me when I started singing it to a different tune than the one they were used to. 🙂

Sing: If You’re Ready for a Story…*

Read: Fall Is Not Easy by Marty Kelley (Big Book)
We sang the text to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot.”
Sing: We Wiggle and Wiggle and Stop (Egg Shakers)
We wiggle and wiggle and stop.

Sing: Way Up High in the Apple Tree (Egg Shakers)
Tune: I’m a Little Teapot
Way up high in the apple tree,
Two little apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could.
Down came the apples.
Mmm, they were good!
We pretended that our egg shakers were apples and held them up high in the sky, then we dropped them on the ground over and over again. The ones were THRILLED by this activity. Dropping things and exploring cause and effect is just so fun!
Sing: Shaky Shaky/The Wiggles (Egg Shakers)
Sing: Can You Shake Along With Me? (Egg Shakers)
Tune: London Bridge
Can you shake along with me,
Along with me, along with me?
Can you shake along with me?
Shake your shaker on your knee!(repeat with other body parts)
Sing: Goodbye Shakers*
Sing: Talk, Read, Sing, Write, Play*
Lit Tip: Building Vocabulary through Music & Movement
Grown-ups, singing songs together helps grow your child’s vocabulary! Songs with meaningful, matching movements like the ones we sang today help your little one learn and understand the meaning of new words.
Sing: If You’re Ready for a Story…*
Read: My Colors / Mis Colores by Rebecca Emberley (Choral Reading)
Play: Bubbles
